Am I Society's Keeper? Corporate Social Responsibility in the Era of Wokeness

What is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)? For some companies it is a voluntary commitment to do public good whereas for others, it is a chance to virtue signal. CSR efforts are often met with criticism and scrutiny. Did the company do the right thing out of an altruistic impulse or to simply boost their bottom line and/or distract from a misdeed or scandal? More often than not, CSR efforts can be traced to selfish ends.

In this report, we examine several companies' approaches to CSR and the ramifications of their efforts, both positive and negative. We also speculate on the future of CSR in this era of wokeness where corporations bow to political pressures and employee activism is on the rise. Finally, we lay out a list of considerations when planning a CSR strategy that will resonate with your employees and cultivate a positive employer brand.
